BIOSOK® absorbs bilge oil & diesel, and turns it into CLEAN WATER & CO2, leaving the bilge water clean and odour free!

Unlike soaker pad products which only absorb the spilt oil and fuel, BioSok® actually turns the contaminated water into clear, odour free water that is safe to discharge. Moreover, a soaker pad simply moves the problem from one point (your bilge) to another place (landfill!) and is messy and unpleasant to handle.BioSok® depleats the contanimant by way of a biological process, utilising processed bee’s wax in a linen bag that is simply placed in the bilge and left until the bag is empty.

The BioSok is a result of research undertaken by NASA and its clever process creates an environment in the bag, whereby the spilt oil and fuel is first absorbed and then microbiologically converted to water and a small amount of CO2, leaving only clean water to be pumped over the side.

One BioSok® weights about 220g and will absorb twice its weight of hydrocarbons (450g) and will biodegrade this in 5- 20 days. It will absorb again and biodegrade again at least 10 times or until the microbes have eaten all the proprietary wax.

When the process is complete the empty linen bag can be safely put in with the domestic rubbish.

Some bilges may require more than one treatment depending on the quantity of material to be converted but once under control one bag should last a whole season. 

There are small BioSok collars for use when refuelling boats, as well as large floating booms for containment and conversion of fuel oil surface spills on waterways .
